What We Do > Nursing Home Abuse
There are times when you and your family have no other option but to place your parent or beloved relative in an assisted care facility or nursing home.
You want the best for your loved ones in their last years and you're depending upon the nursing home to provide good care in a loving environment.
Unfortunately, however, there are times when caretakers or neglectful facilities neglect or abuse elderly residents.
To reduce the likely hood of this occurring we suggest you make make frequent, unscheduled visits to your elderly loved one's nursing home or care facility. Observations should be made not only of how well your relative is doing but how the daily operations are run, and how other residents are being treated. The care and treatment your relative receives should be monitored and their physical possessions inventoried, regularly.
Your loved one may be a victim of nursing home abuse if you notice any of the following conditions:
- bed sores, pressure sores or skin tears
- broken bones or fractures
- bruises
- bullying or intimidation
- decubitis ulcers
- dehydration or malnutrition
- depression or despair
- falls because of inadequate assistance
- falls because of dangerous conditions
- fear of nursing home staff or caretakers
- infections
- missing money or assets
- neglect or physical abuse (assault)
- rapid decline
- sexual or verbal abuse
- starvation
- wrongful death.
