What We Do > Dangerous Drugs > Actos

Actos (pioglitazone) is a Type 2 diabetes drug which has been linked to an increased risk of heart attack, congestive heart failure, heart disease and death. It has also been linked to an increased risk of bladder cancer, rhabdomyolysis(kidney damage), liver damage, and bone fracture. If you have experienced any of these dangerous side effects while taking Actos, Actoplus met, Actoplus met XR, or duetact, you may be entitled to compensation.

According to an FDA warning, patients who take Actos for more than a year are 40 percent more likely to develop bladder cancer than those never exposed to Actos. Lawsuits are currently being filed against the manufacturer of Actos for failing to warn patients of the potential increased risk of bladder cancer associated with continued use of Actos.

Actos is often prescribed as an alternative to Avandia. At one time it was believed that Actos was safer. A 2010 study found that both drugs carry the same risk of heart problems and death. Shortly after the findings of that study were published the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced tight restrictions on Avandia, but not Actos.
